Sixth-ranked Moorestown (NJ) defeated Colorado power Cherry Creek (CO) going away by the final score of 15-4 at Moorestown High School in New Jersey on Saturday. The win moves Moorestown to 4-0 on the season. Cherry Creek suffered its first setback of 2013 and falls to 4-1. The teams traded goals in the opening minutes before Moorestown went on a three-goal run to jump ahead 4-1. A Cherry Creek goal made the game 4-2, and a draw control for the Bruins had them on the attack again. But the Moorestown defense was up to the task, and after they were able to thwart a long Bruins possession, the Quakers ended the half with another three-goal spurt to take a 7-2 lead into the break. ...

The top-ranked Boys’ Latin Lakers (MD) defeated the three-time defending PIAA State Champion Conestoga Pioneers (PA) in dominant fashion Friday night, taking an 18-3 decision at Conestoga’s Teamer Field. The win moves Boys’ Latin to 9-0 on the season. Conestoga falls to 2-3. The Pioneers had defeated the Lakers in their past two meetings (2011 and 2012) before tonight. ...

Game Preview: No. 1 Boys’ Latin Lakers (MD) at Conestoga Pioneers (PA)

Last week in girl’s high school lacrosse was highlighted by some big games in the Tri-State area. St. Anthony’s (NY) had a huge week, going 2-0 while playing two of the top teams on Long Island. First on Wednesday, the Friars hosted Garden City (NY) and knocked off the previously undefeated Trojans in impressive fashion, winning 11-6. Then on Friday, the Friars traveled to Manhasset (NY), where they took down the Indians in overtime, 11-9. After an early loss in Florida to Vero Beach (FL), the Friars have been dominant, amassing a 13-1 overall record. It was also a big week for Moorestown (NJ), who went 2-0 to keep their undefeated season going at 17-0. The first of their two wins this week came last Tuesday over previously unbeaten Shawnee (NJ) by an 8-4 final. Then on Thursday, the Quakers took down Pennsylvania power Conestoga (PA), 15-10. Defenseman Jake Sawyer (Denver, Colorado/Denver East High School) has committed to play lacrosse at the Hobart College. The Statesman, coached by T.W. Johnson, compete in the ECAC. Sawyer, a team captain at Denver East, brings size and skill to the Geneva, New York campus. A tall and athletic defender, Sawyer has good speed, utilizing a long stride to beat riding players when clearing. He plays very solid positional defense and uses his stick very well to lengthen his reach and keep attackers at bay. ...

Quick Highlights: Avon Old Farms (CT) 9, New Canaan (CT) 8

Trailing by two entering the fourth quarter, Avon used a four-goal run to turn a 7-5 deficit into a 9-7 advantage in a contest played Saturday, March 30. New Canaan would not go quietly, however, getting to within one at 9-8 with time winding down. But on the final possession, New Canaan was not able to get the equalizer as Avon’s defense preserved the one-goal victory. Check out the video on the right for some game highlights.
